Have you ever wondered how a Montessori education could benefit your child?

New School Montessori, located at 935 Columbia Avenue, will provide an opportunity to learn more about this innovative educational method at a community Open House on Wednesday, October 9th.

The public is invited to tour our four-story school, housed in the former Hamilton Watch Company Headquarters, and meet with school administrators and Montessori-trained teachers of the infant, toddler, primary, elementary, and middle school levels.

The Head of School, Robyn Stearne, will give a brief orientation followed by question and answer sessions. Participants will also have the opportunity to observe a program of their choice.

The Tamburitzans are coming back to Lancaster County! Now in its 88th season, the Tamburitzans, a professional all-college student music and dance troupe from Pittsburgh is back to present its newest show! This 2 hour live stage production features music, song and dance from cultures from around the world. Noted Lancaster performer and musician, Cody McSherry, will join with two dozen other performers to present this nationally-acclaimed show!

The show will present the folk music and dance of a variety of countries, including, Croatia, Serbia, Poland, Albania, Bulgaria, Spain, and the Romani culture and more along with all the enthralling instruments, entrancing costumes and intricate steps you've come to love from America's Longest Running Live Stage Show.

Organist Larry Hershey will play a free 30 minute concert, “For All the Saints” on the majestic Hill Byrne Christiansen Memorial Organ at 8 PM on First Friday, November 1, in the historic 1854 First Reformed Church, 40 E. Orange Street, in downtown Lancaster. The program includes "Rejoice in Celebration of St. Michael" by Grimoaldo Macchia and "Solemn Melody" by Walford Davies. Pianist Debbie Botham will join Mr. Hershey for "Salut d'Amour" by Edward Elgar, "Sicilienne" by Gabriel Faure and "March of The Priests" by Felix Mendelssohn.

The First Friday “Organic Reflections” concert series is a gift to the community from First Reformed Church, a center city congregation of the United Church of Christ. Only 30 minutes in length, the free concerts begin at 8 PM each First Friday for the convenience of those who wish to spend the early evening visiting downtown galleries before the concert. International Conference on Graphene & 2D Materials (ICG2DM2024) has been scheduled on November 4-6,2024 at Vancouver, Canada. The three-day conference will include plenary and keynote lectures by experienced experts and Oral talks, Poster presentations, Workshops and Exhibitions.

The main objective of the meeting is to promote contacts between scientists working in Graphene & 2D Materials, in order to share experiences, to spread the latest information on progress in their specialties and related fields, to gain visibility for their research, to put young researchers interacting with their peers and seniors, and to develop professionally.

We sincerely hope that ICG2DM2024 will serve as an international platform for meeting researchers from around the world, establishing new collaborations, and broadening professional contact.

“Persuasion: A New Play Inspired by Jane Austen” will be performed within the candlelit rooms of the circa 1794 General Edward Hand Mansion at Historic Rock Ford on November 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM. This one-act play, adapted by Sam Slaymaker from “Persuasion” by Jane Austen, and directed by Rachel Faust, is intended to provide audiences with the flavor of Austen’s work and wit within the setting of a true Georgian Mansion.

“Persuasion” relates the story of Anne Elliot, an aristocratic young lady who declines marrying Captain Frederick Wentworth at a youthful age even though she deeply loves him. After a period of seven years, Anne and Wentworth meet again and must resolve their complex feelings through a series of encounters that will be highlighted in the play. “Persuasion” was Austen’s final complete novel and has often been cited as her most insightful and mature work.
