Historic Rock Ford welcomes Bob Frishman as he presents “Edward Duffield: Philadelphia Clockmaker, Citizen, Gentleman 1730-1803” on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 2 PM in the Langmuir Education Room located on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn, 881 Rockford Road, Lancaster, PA.

Frishman will present an informative historical overview on Edward Duffield, who was far more than a clockmaker in 18th century Philadelphia. A wealthy property owner and active civic and Anglican Church leader, Duffield nonetheless made, repaired, and sold elegant floor-standing clocks, surveying instruments, and sundials that today are in museums and private collections. He was also a life-long friend of Benjamin Franklin and served as executor of Franklin’s estate. Frishman’s presentation will be supplemented with over 100 images from his newly released comprehensive biography of Duffield which addresses all aspects of the clockmaker’s life and the practice of clockmaking in Colonial America.

Organist Larry Hershey returns to the console of the Hill Byrne Christiansen Memorial Organ for a free 30 minute concert at 8 PM on First Friday, October 4, featuring a program entitled “Graveyard Gems” at First Reformed Church, 40 E. Orange Street, in downtown Lancaster. The program includes Johann Sebastian Bach’s most famous work, “Toccata in D Minor”, “Funeral March for a Marionette” by Charles Gounod (popularized as the theme for Alfred Hitchcock’s suspense thriller TV show), and “Twilight” by Carol Williams, and concludes with Leon Boellmann’s “Toccata from Suite Gothique”.

The First Friday “Organic Reflections” concert series is a gift to the community from First Reformed Church, a center city congregation of the United Church of Christ. Only 30 minutes in length, the free concerts begin at 8 PM each First Friday for the convenience of those who wish to spend the early evening visiting downtown galleries before the concert. The Tamburitzans are coming back to Lancaster County! Now in its 88th season, the Tamburitzans, a professional all-college student music and dance troupe from Pittsburgh is back to present its newest show! This 2 hour live stage production features music, song and dance from cultures from around the world. Noted Lancaster performer and musician, Cody McSherry, will join with two dozen other performers to present this nationally-acclaimed show!

The show will present the folk music and dance of a variety of countries, including, Croatia, Serbia, Poland, Albania, Bulgaria, Spain, and the Romani culture and more along with all the enthralling instruments, entrancing costumes and intricate steps you've come to love from America's Longest Running Live Stage Show.

International Conference on Graphene & 2D Materials (ICG2DM2024) has been scheduled on November 4-6,2024 at Vancouver, Canada. The three-day conference will include plenary and keynote lectures by experienced experts and Oral talks, Poster presentations, Workshops and Exhibitions.

The main objective of the meeting is to promote contacts between scientists working in Graphene & 2D Materials, in order to share experiences, to spread the latest information on progress in their specialties and related fields, to gain visibility for their research, to put young researchers interacting with their peers and seniors, and to develop professionally.

We sincerely hope that ICG2DM2024 will serve as an international platform for meeting researchers from around the world, establishing new collaborations, and broadening professional contact.
