Cabins at Refreshing Mountain
The story of the success of Refreshing Mountain Camp is a testimony to the Lord's faithfulness to "bless the works of our hands". The initial vision of Marlin and Sharon, accompanied by their hard work and consistency, has led to the development of the camp as it is today. That vision has grown beyond them, and is joined by other employees who share that vision and expand on it in their own ways. Marlin says that he would never have been able to grasp the concept of RMC today when he first started, but he just took one step at a time, and this is where it has led thus far.

Chickies Rock Park
website | map it | (717) 299-8901 | Route 441 North, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, 17370
Perhaps SummitPost.org says it best: "Chickies Rock is merely a hill if you look at it by the map. Yes, it looks a little steep, but nothing like what you see when you stand at the base and look up the 220 foot vertical wall. Impressive........yes, definitely, especially for Pennsylvania. Chickies Rock is without a doubt the premier natural rock climbing location in the state. You can go there any day of the year and there will be at any one time at least 5-10 climbers heading up the steep precipice ... It has history, history, and even more history. It is now part of the Chickies Rock County Park which contains more than 422 acres of preservation land. Much of this land along the river was part of the old Pennsylvania Canal. Prior to that it was one of the largest Indian villages discovered in Lancaster County. Even more than that, it ran lines for the PA Railroad and still is active in shipping by rail. Geologically speaking Chickies Rock is something special to many people on the east coast. It is the largest exposed Anticline on the east coast. This geological feature is very easy to pick out as the rock arches up on the north and south sides of the outcropping. The center of the anticline is located right around the northwest corner of the outcropping and it forms a mini-cave." Simply put, Chickies Rock is breathtaking, and is worth a visit on your next trip to Lancaster County.

Cornwall Iron Furnace
website | map it | (717) 272-9711 | 94 Rexmont Road, Cornwall, Pennsylvania, 17016
Cornwall Furnace is indeed a unique survivor of the early American iron industry. Originally built by Peter Grubb in 1742, the furnace underwent extensive renovations in 1856-57 under its subsequent owners, the Coleman family, and closed in 1883. It is this mid-19th century ironmaking complex which survives today. At Cornwall, furnace, blast equipment, and related buildings still stand as they did over a century ago. Here visitors can explore the rambling Gothic Revival buildings where cannons, stoves, and pig iron were cast, and where men labored day and night to satisfy the furnace’s appetite for charcoal, limestone, and iron ore.
Cornwall Iron Furnace is part of a National Historic Landmark District by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. It has also been designated a National Historical Landmark by the American Society of Metals, and a National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, citing Cornwall Furnace as “the only one of America’s hundreds of 19th century charcoal fueled blast furnaces to survive fully intact.”
